Dear Pen Pal,
I apologize for not writing sooner.
I have discovered that website designing comes with a whole world of options, and it sent me over the edge! in March, I decided to switch from using a pre-set blogging template for this site, to a much more dynamic wordpress.org website. It was such a good decision because I am in love with it. I spent hours and hours over the past few
weeks setting up widgets and watching the new flashy designs change the SweetGeorgiaPam site into a glitzy, professional looking thing that I’m proud to show off.
BUT, there is a such thing as over doing it. And that’s where I found myself today. It’s like I have opened “all of the cans of paint in the studio” and can’t decide what colors to use or what to paint or when to stop and do something else!
Creativity, it turns out, needs discipline. And now, it’s Friday, and the clock feels like a ticking time bomb because I can only do so many things and I have so many other things I could and would also like to do.
And, to top it all off, the tweaking I was doing on the site this morning was on my Spiritual Resources & Recommendations page– which means I was exploring a ton of really great spiritual resources. And it was making me want to spend time on all of those websites too!
Can you feel my anxiety rising, Friend?
So then, I noticed that when I migrated my posts from the old to the new site, all of the posts between October and the beginning of March were missing. They did not move over. I began the long, tedious task of trying to copy/paste them into the new blog, but, and here’s why I’m writing you now, I started reading what I had been posting to you over the past 7 months and I fell in love with what we’ve got going here. Pen Pal, I remembered the stillness and the enjoyment I get from just writing directly to you from me on any given day.
Starting a new post feels like pulling out a piece of pretty stationary, picking up my favorite pen, calling you to mind, and then writing a pen pal letter.
I miss doing that and I realized that getting caught up in the overwhelming world of website design can (if I don’t pay attention) pull me away from the reason for the website in the first place, which is intimate connection to the Other (to you) on virtual stationary.
I got caught up in designing the stationary and forgot to write anything on it~ Sorry about that 🙂
Hope you are well. With love, Sweet Georgia Pam
P.S. Every good Pen Pal letter needs a “P.S.” don’t you think? Anyway, P.S.
I’d love to hear back from you if you’re not busy, Friend. Please address to Pam@SweetGeorgiaPam.com or simply say Hello in the Comments on this post. Ok, that’s all, take care!
