News stories can creep into your dreams at night and become twisted versions of themselves. Don’t dismiss it when it happens. It has a deeper message for you. It is telling you something very specific about what that news story captures for you. Do the work to stay with these images. Your dreaming mind is not sharing this with you ‘just because’…nothing in dreams is just because.
Y’all, there was a news story recently about a tiger found roaming a neighborhood in Georgia. Three nights later, I dreamt of being face to face with a white tiger who was in an enclosure. But I was in there with it and it was my turn to try and get him to do a trick. I experienced cupping his huge face in my hands and feeling the power of his jaws beneath his fur. I was terrified but the tiger in my dream did what I signaled for him to do. He sat when I said, “Sit!”
When I woke up I immediately recognized where the dream ‘came from’. It was that news story that was so wild the other day. But that doesn’t mean that I can dismiss the meaning of the dream just because I see what it is connected to in waking life.
To work with a dream, is not just about figuring out ‘what it means’. To work with a dream is about taking a dream (or dream image) and sitting with it, exploring all of the various layers that exist for you in it. It is about asking more than just- where did this dream imagery come from; it’s about asking why did this imagery show up in my dream (as opposed to all of the millions of other bits of imagery that I come across in waking life)- why this story?
A dream, even a short one, is full of potential nutrients for your soul. Some of those nutrients get extracted by dreaming alone; some nutrients are absorbed when you make waking life connections; but even more soulful wisdom is available to you if you are willing to spend time with a dream beyond whatever instant understanding you have about it upon waking.
I will keep this tiger dream close to me for a long time and look for opportunities to explore it deeper. I will continue to let it feed me as I continue to live this life. In fact, true story, as I was writing this post I had the television on in the background and the show that was on did a special animal segment with- you guessed it- tigers.
The tiger in my dream has so much to offer me because it is connected to a real life current events news story, I have an experience of it in waking life as well as in dream life. That makes it a doubly strong image! It is rooted in both waking and dream worlds. That means that it isn’t random and it isn’t easily dismissed.
When your dream incorporates current news, pay attention!
